Global Goods Partners Celebrates International Women’s Day by Acknowledging the Work of Our Global Partners

On March 8th of each year events are held throughout the world to honor women and to celebrate their achievements. At Global Goods Partners, we celebrate women every day by partnering with organizations across the Global South that empower women and acknowledge their vital contributions to development. Our grassroots women partners work everyday to support their families and their communities while also contributing to human rights efforts around the world.

Women produce almost all of the products sold by GGP. Because women tend to invest their earnings in food, health care, and education for their children, you know that your purchases not only support the economic security of the individual who made your scarf or necklace, but also her family and community. All of these are investments in the future, and contribute to long-term economic advancements for families, communities, and ultimately, for countries.

In the Peruvian Amazon, for example, our partner, Minga Peru partners with local women and families to promote human rights, health, and the sustainable management of natural resources. The women at Minga produce beautiful jewelry made from sustainable resources such as coconut shell and seeds. Additional revenue from the sale of this jewelry supports the human rights work of the organization. To date, Minga has improved reproductive health care for over 500 women; influenced thousands of community members to exercise their human rights through an award winning radio show; promoted increased understanding of reproductive health in the Amazon; and supported the creation of the Social Responsibility Network.

On March 8th, as with every day, GGP commits to supporting women-led development initiatives: acknowledging simultaneously the multiple inequalities faced by poor women and the unique role women play in economic and social development.
