Aik Hunar Aik Nagar

Aik Hunar Aik Nagar (AHAN), or One Village One Product, helps impoverished communities attain economic empowerment through focused production of traditional handmade crafts. AHAN operates as a non-profit company and creates a supportive environment for non-agricultural sector producer groups, in particular women, landless populations, and primary wage earners in rural areas throughout Pakistan. It provides need assessment surveys, product development training, and marketing support; the emphasis is on development of sustainable income-earning opportunities.

Rural Artisan Groups

Pakistan is home to many traditional handicrafts, such as embroidery, ceramics and silver-work, which are created by specialized artisan groups. Unfortunately, these artisans work in an industry dominated by middlemen and rarely see the fruits of their labors. Pakistan’s government has recently uncovered this industry’s potential to spur economic development in rural areas, where three-quarters of the population live in poverty. AHAN works with groups in all four of Pakistan's provinces (Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan), and enables them to receive fair compensation for their craft.
