The Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) was founded in 1995 to provide access to quality education for Afghan women and girls. Today, AIL serves over 350,000 women and children annually with 470 staff members, eighty three percent (83%) of whom are women. AIL promotes women’s empowerment and the full participation of women and girls in strengthening Afghan society. AIL works with local communities to provide a range of programs including literacy training for women, schooling for girls, teacher training, health education and health services, vocational training and income generating activities. At AIL’s Women’s Learning Centers, participants receive training in leadership skills, women’s rights and vocational skills building.
