Alma de los Andes or Spirit of the Andes, is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the lives of impoverished, indigenous women and their families through the creation and sale of high-end finished knit products. Along with technical skills, Spirit of the Andes is dedicated to giving women basic business and leadership skills and offers its participants courses in human rights and preventive and maternal health care. The Spirit of the Andes builds solidarity and companionship among the women, many of whom have been abandoned by their husbands, in a supportive and safe environment
