Karen Women’s Organization
Thai-Burma Border
KWO empowers Karen women in refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border. Craft
production that incorporates traditional Karen design increases women’s self-confidence, participation within their communities, and respect of Karen culture. KWO provides training in design, business skills, marketing, product quality control, and traditional Karen practices of natural dyeing, weaving, sewing and embroidery. The project is popular with women in the camps as it provides them with an opportunity to earn an income while retaining traditional skills.
